Privacy

The short version

The app has no account system, sends no telemetry, and makes no network requests of its own. Your recordings are written to your own disk and stay there unless you move them. This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics.

That is not a promise about a future architecture. It is a description of how the app is built today: there is no server to receive anything.

What the app touches

When you record, Reel Garden reads the display or window you pick, and — only if you switch them on — your microphone, camera, system audio, and keystrokes. That media is encoded on your machine and saved to your user Application Support folder. Editing and export read from and write to that same local storage.

When you export, you choose where the file goes. Nothing is copied anywhere else, and the app adds no watermark, metadata tag, or identifier to the output.

The app also keeps a small local diagnostic log containing its version, platform, and operational errors. It does not include recording pixels, audio, cursor events, or filenames, is never transmitted, and can be opened from the Help menu.

Permissions macOS asks for

macOS gates screen capture, the microphone, and the camera behind system permissions, and asks you for each one the first time it is needed. Those prompts come from macOS, not from us, and you can withdraw any of them at any time in System Settings under Privacy & Security. Ordinary recording needs nothing beyond those three, and the app asks for none of them until you press Allow on the first-run screen.

Two optional features need Accessibility access, and the app requests it only when you turn one of them on. Click punch-ins observe left mouse-down, to zoom where you clicked. The keystroke overlay records the keys you press, so it can draw them on the recording.

The keystroke overlay

It is off unless you turn it on, it has its own switch, and its row is marked while it is recording. When it is off, no keystroke is written to the recording at all — the part of the app that reads the keyboard is never started, rather than started and ignored.

When it is on, it records the keys you press into that recording's own folder on your Mac, alongside the video. macOS excludes it while a password field is focused, so those keystrokes never reach the app. Everything else you type while recording is captured — and is already in the video, because you typed it on the screen being recorded. It observes keys and cannot alter, block, or send them anywhere.

What the app does not do

• No account, sign-in, or licence check.
• No analytics, usage statistics, or remote crash reporting.
• No automatic update check.
• No upload of recordings, and no sharing or hosting feature.
• No transcription or captioning, so no text is derived from your audio.

If any of these change in a future release, this page changes in the same release, and the change will be named in the changelog rather than quietly added here.

This website

reel.garden is a static site. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, embeds no third-party fonts, scripts, or CDNs, and has no contact form, newsletter, or checkout. Every asset is served from the same server as the page. As with any web server, your browser's request reaches ours in order to be answered.

Your recordings, your responsibility

Because nothing is uploaded, there is no copy for us to hand over, secure, or delete on your behalf — and equally, no backup. Your recordings live on your disk under your own backup arrangements. Deleting a recording in the app deletes it from your disk.

Reel Garden has not been released, nothing is for sale, and this site collects nothing, so there is currently no personal data held anywhere for us to act on. A published support address and the legal business identity behind the app will appear here with the first release, alongside the purchase terms.
